Starting on October 1, players in Pokémon Go will gain access to an exclusive Special Research called Search For Zarude!, which gives players access to the mythical Pokémon Zarude. The Special Research quest will be available at the start of the Secrets of the Jungle event on October 1 at 10 AM in your local time zone until 11. The quest goes away after this duration, and you will not be able to encounter Zarude until it appears for its next event appearance, which could be quite some time out.
There will be five tasks for this quest that you need to complete, and if you don’t complete it before the Secrets of the Jungle quest is over, that’s fine. The Search for Zarude! Special Research quest will remain in your quest tab until you finish it.

These are all of the tasks and rewards you’ll receive while working through the Search for Zarude! Special Research. Zarude will be a guaranteed encounter when it does appear, so you shouldn’t have to worry about trying to save for it or use your best Poké Balls. Unfortunately, Zarude can not be shiny.
Task 1
- Catch 7 different species of Pokémon – 1 Sun stone
- Catch 7 Normal-type Pokémon – Diglett encounter
- Take 3 snapshots of wild Ground-type Pokémon – 15 Poké Balls
Rewards: 250 Stardust, 10 Nanba berries, and a Drilbur encounter.
Task 2
- Make 3 Great Throws in a row – 5 Pinap berries
- Catch 10 Bug-type Pokémon – A Dwebble encounter
- Take 3 snapshots of wild Bug-type Pokémon – 10 Great Balls
Rewards: 250 Stardust, 10 Razz berries, and a Combee encounter.
Task 3
- Use 20 berries to help catch Pokémon – Cherrim encounter
- Catch 30 Bug or Grass-type Pokémon – Vileplume encounter
- Take 3 snapshots of wild Grass-type Pokémon – 10 Great Balls
Rewards: 500 Stardust, 10 Pinap berries, and a Nuzleaf encounter.
Task 4
- Defeat 6 Team Rocket Grunts – Ariados encounter
- Catch 15 Pokémon with Weather Boost – Butterfree encounter
- Take 3 snapshots of Flying-type Pokémon – 10 Ultra Balls
Rewards: 500 Stardust, a Poffin, and a Rufflet encounter
Task 5
- Claim reward: 1,000 XP
- Claim reward: 1,000 XP
- Claim reward: 1,000 XP
Rewards: 1,000 Stardust, 10 Zarude candy, and a Zarude encounter
